Wirksworth Windows throughout the Festival, 12 - 26 September 2009
Work in shop windows throughout Wirksworth. Artists will create installations in the windows, responding to the premises their work is shown in. We are particularly interested in experimental work, and work which is illuminated or lightworks which will enliven the town after dusk.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
By applying you are accepting the following terms and conditions :
COMMISSION ON SALES
Please note that, as in 2008, we are asking all artists and makers who have total sales in excess of £100 to pay 10% commission on their total sales. Artists and makers selling less than £100 will not pay commission.
APPLICATION FEES
There is an application fee of £5 per person for all artists and makers applying. The application fee is not refundable, and is used to cover our costs of processing and management of the trails. This process is much more efficient with the change to on-line applications, and we have been able to reduce the application fee from last year.
Those artists selected will be asked to pay a £30 fee towards our costs of staffing, publicity and marketing. This change is in response to comments last year, and we hope it will be a more equitable system of covering our costs. There are concessions as follows: £15 for students and graduates in their first year of practice; £25 for an Artist using their own home.
All applicants must complete the form below.
CHANGES TO PROGRAMME
The Festival reserves the right to make any changes as necessary or to reject applications if appropriate.
MARKETING MATERIALS
The production of Trail Guides, the Makers Market brochure and other marketing depends on the provision of information by the artist in the application form. The Festival accepts no liability for any errors or omissions in its advertising and promotional material.
INSURANCE
The Festival accepts no liability for damage to or loss of work or other equipment either on display or in transit. It is essential that artists take out their own insurance to cover all risks associated with their participation in the Trails.
PROPOSALS
You should submit your application - our preference is for applications to be sent by email - as well as completing the form below. Please state clearly whether you are applying for the ART & ARCHITECTURE TRAIL, the MAKERS MARKET or the WINDOWS.
You should submit the following:
> a written proposal (word doc or PDF, maximum 2 sides of A4), with examples of your most recent work, or images of what you are proposing for this year. The proposal should contain four digital (jpeg) images at 72dpi with one image marked for publication (this image should also be supplied at 300dpi for publication). You do not need to submit a written proposal if you are applying for the MAKERS MARKET, just a brief description of your work and four digital (jpeg) images at 72dpi with one image marked for publication (this image should also be supplied at 300dpi for publication).
> an up to date CV
> a list of the images you have submitted, stating the title, medium and dimensions in centimetres of each piece of work, and which one is intended for publication.
If you are unable to submit your work by email then we can accept proposals by post. If you want any material to be returned then you must enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope. Our postal address is Wirksworth Festival, Memorial Hall, 39 St John's Street, Wirksworth, Derbyshire DE4 4DS.
DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF PROPOSALS IS MAY 1 2009.
Unfortunately, we will not be able to consider applications received after this date.
You will be advised at the end of June if your application has been successful or not.
We recommend that you keep a copy of your submitted application. |
ART & ARCHITECTURE TRAIL
September 12 - 13 2009
Decisions by the Selection Committee are made entirely on the proposals submitted and places are limited, so it is important that we have a full understanding of your proposals to allow an informed decision.
VENUE ALLOCATION
Apart from artists exhibiting in their own homes or studios, artists cannot always be guaranteed a specific venue, size of space or a joint exhibitor. We will, however, respond to preferences where possible and seek to allocate artists to appropriate venues. Each artist has full responsibility to examine the venue in advance and make sure that it is suitable.
Please contact your venue host well in advance – as soon as possible after you receive your confirmation letter - to discuss proposals, and contact us before the end of July if there are any problems. It will not be possible to make any changes in venue allocations after this date.
VENUE HOSTS
All the venue hosts have very generously agreed to let the Festival and exhibiting artists use their home during the weekend. Every artist is expected to respond by respecting this and taking steps to ensure there is no damage or disturbance to the venue during the weekend. The Festival maintains public liability insurance for the duration of the Trails and will seek to protect hosts from risks and expenses, but there is no direct payment to the venue host for the use of the space. We therefore suggest a gift from each artist to show appreciation for the opportunity provided. Any wilful damage caused by artists will be charged to the artist. |

WIRKSWORTH MAKERS MARKET
September 12 - 13 2009
The Makers Market will be in the Town Hall and Memorial Hall. It is now an established part of the Festival experience and we are keen to continue to raise the profile of high quality contemporary makers.
Artists exhibiting in the Makers Market will be expected to present work on both days and there will also be an option to have outdoor stalls in the Market Place and Church Walk if weather permits. Places are limited to approximately 40 indoor spaces and 20 outdoor spaces.
The Makers Market will be promoted in the Festival brochure, website and trail guides. There will also be a specific brochure available in advance to promote the event.
We intend to further raise the profile of contemporary makers by producing a selected, curated exhibition alongside the Makers Market each year, focussing on one media or discipline. The selection for this is separate to the Makers' Market and will be by invitation rather than application. |

WIRKSWORTH WINDOWS
throughout the Festival, 12 - 26 September 2009
The artists' installations in shop windows are a very visible manifestation of the festival. We are especially interested in experimental work, and in work which will illuminate or animate the windows after dusk.
Artists will install their work so that it is in place for the morning of 12 September, and be responsible for removing the work, by arrangement with their venue, as soon as possible after 26 September.
You should ensure that you send us images of previous or existing work which is relevant to your proposal.
Windows is an opportunity for emerging artists to take on an installation in a small space, for experimental approaches and to enjoy the chance to respond to an unusual context. We hope that successful installations will lead on to major commissions in future years |
